I’m not the kind of girl who likes to watch the news. News shows will never be on my tv or on the radio while I drive. I know it’s important to know what’s going on in the world, but thanks to a little thing you might know called the Internet and to another thing called Facebook, news are rapidly spread and you don’t actually need to watch the morning or evening news to know the important stuff. Of course, if you wanna know about local stuff you’d have to watch those shows, but let’s be honest…. I don’t wanna know about all the crimes and not so great things that happen here. News give me the chills and I believe that they make people feel more stressed, more scared, and overall more worried about everything.
So, instead of listening to news shows on the radio while I drive, I listen to music, but after a while I got kinda tired of listening to my Happy Ride Playlist on Spotify every morning and every afternoon. I tried some other playlists, but I always ended up skipping most of the songs and going back to my playlist. This happened until a couple of months ago I discovered the magic of podcasts! I mean I knew podcast existed, still I’ve never given them a chance, so I decided to give them a try.
I did my research, I found lists of the best podcast for women, the best podcast for wellness, the best podcasts for entrepreneurs… I ended up following a bunch of them and listening to a couple of episodes of each one of them every morning and every afternoon. Some of them didn’t last long on my phone for different reasons like the voice of the host that sounded kinda boring to me, the subjects they were talking about, the number of adds they had throughout the show, etc. And right now I follow (wait, let me count them…) 19 podcasts and yes I listen to all of them!! I live alone people and I don’t watch tv. Anyway, I’m not going to tell you about all of them, I’m going to tell you about the ones I enjoy the most!
In the words of the hosts, this is a podcast for “long distance besties everywhere”. I love this show because these girls talk about things that matter, about women related subjects like period related news that no one else talks about, and they also talk about not so important but interesting things to me like celebrities mostly because Aminatou loves The Kardashians. It took me a while to find a podcast like this, actually I found about them like two weeks ago and I can’t stop listening to them! This podcast keeps me updated on the latests and most important news of the week, and I love it!!
2.- The Lively Show
Hosted by Jess Lively, she has a new guest every show and they talk about different inspiring subjects. This is actually the first podcast I listened to and I was hooked when I saw Jess’s website because I saw that she interviewed many people I followed on Instagram and different personalities I admire like Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic), Jen Gotch (founder of BAN.DO), and Gary Vee (New York Times best selling author and entrepreneur) to name a few. I don’t know about you guys, but for me it is so inspiring to listen to other people’s stories and get great advice from them. That’s what Jess does, she interviews these people and asks them all the right questions so that her listeners are able to take some good learnings and they can add a little more intention to their lives.
Michael Hyatt has become one of my favourite human beings on this planet even if he doesn’t even know it. He’s the former chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers (one of the largest publishing companies in the U.S.), he’s a bestselling author, he has a podcast, he has a family, he has a business, he is amazing!(Yes yes I love him haha). In these podcast he talks mostly about leadership, but he covers a bunch of different subjects that go from blogging, to leadership, productivity and more. The show is in it’s seventh season, and I’m still listening to season one but I love it. He talks very honestly and directly about every subject and, what I really like is that he gives out lists or steps that really make the learning process so much easier (or at least that what he does on season one).Other thing that I like about him is that you can read the transcripts of the show on his website.
4.- Life Lately
The show is hosted by two long distance friends, Clara and Brooke. (Yes, this may sound as the same story of podcast #1, but it’s not). In the podcast these girls talk about different subjects of the everyday life. What I like about them is that they’re really down to earth and I can totally relate to the subjects they talk about. They have a manifesto with the eight things they believe that are necessary for living true. This is kind of a new show, they’re on their 13th episode, so you can catch up really fast!
So there you have it! You can listen to these or any other podcast while you drive, while you shower, while you cook or during your workout. I do it all the time and it’s a great way to feel empowered, to know what’s going on in the world and to get to know other people. Let me know what you think about these podcasts in case you decide to give them a try, and also please tell about podcasts that you listen to! I’ll be happy to give them a try too.
